Final Exam

I’m really proud of how this semester of News Media Practicum turned out. I’m getting more out of the class this time around. Last semester I had a medical withdrawal from FSC, which was necessary, but inconvenient. I am still catching up. At first I was frustrated about being behind, but ultimately, I realized that it doesn’t matter when I complete the course, as long as I keep putting forth 100 percent of my effort, because this is a class where you get what you put in. This has been such a great learning and growing process

GO MOCS! +4

Last night, a lot of practicum students needing hours (myself included) came out to watch both the men's and women's basketball teams dominate against Florida Tech. It was exciting. Justin had Dakota's camera, and we all took turns shooting. There were so many people, that no one really shot a long time except for TJ, but he's totally a perfectionist, so it's probably better that he did so much anyway.

My First Package +3

I've been working with Kristin on a package for Wellness TV. I'm really excited because I chose the topic myself- how giving back can help rid students of holiday blues, and any feelings of dissatisfaction associated with the holiday season.
This week we've been running around, squeezing in interviews whenever we could. On Tues, I got 3 interviews with my friends in Jenkins, but my audio didn't work, so I couldn't use them.
On Thursday, Kristin and I made up the interviews and got really cool Broll. So far, so good.
This morning, I got an early interview with the chaplain, and Monday morning, I have one with Student Life. I'm cutting it close to my deadline, but I think that if I edit everything else this weekend, then this package can be done before noon on Monday. I just have to stay focused.

Lending a Helping Hand (+1)

Tonight I volunteered to help Dalton with his project after seeing a post on the practicum FB page. I had to complete two surveys and watch a clip from a movie. It was easy.

Flippin Sweet! +1

Today a huge group of COM students approached me in TuTus and asked if I wanted to help them with their class project. All I had to do was volunteer to be the subject of their b-roll. Mostly I did a lot of sassy looking into the camera and hair flipping. It was pretty cool. Im curious what the final product will look like.

Happy Monday!

11/28

Interlachen Meeting (1)
Today's meeting was a little longer than usual. We changed editors and themes for this year's issue. We brainstormed style and layout ideas. I was assigned video for the poetry slam on Wednesday, and next week's tree lighting ceremony.

Wellness TV (.5)
We're using my ideas for the next episode of WTV! I'm so excited. This semester, I feel like I'm totally getting an opportunity to contribute, and its exciting. I like being relevant to the campus productions and our department. I'm taking on my first solo package. It's going to be about ways to give back this holiday season.

INTERVIEW!!! +2

11/22 I saw Anna's post on the FB group and assisted her with an interview with safety. It was a lot of fun. I really appreciate the older kids giving me more opportunities to work with the camera alone. I'm so much more confident. We got b-roll too.

Men's Basketball +2

11/19 Dakota could'nt shoot the men's game, so she gave the camera to Justin. I went with him and shot the first half of the game. Tony brought the tape. Other people came, but we were the main shooters :) The Mocs dominated aginst Puerto Rico

11/7 +1.5

Today was the sports show production. I actually got to work with a camera for the first time. I was super intimidated, but I did pretty well, I think. You really just have to follow directions. I look forward to the day when I feel 100% comfortble. Hopefuly that will be next semester when I take more COM classes.

Mastering Final Cut +1.5

09/26-saw John's post on the FB page and decided to take advantage of the tutrorials/editing practice from 3:30-5p. He and Tori (and later Charlotte) were showing TJ, Justin, and I input and output. basically, I learned how to upload the tape and make it digital, then import it to Final Cut Pro, and edit old video and audio. Next, I get to learn about transitions.

First Show Of The Year +1.5

Today we shot the first episode of the Moc Sports show. Freshman soccer player, Kirra Rainbow was our guest. I was on the new teleprompter.

The shoot was petty quick and successful- until Dakota realized she forgot to tape it! There will be a re-do soon.

Playing Catch Up +6.5hrs

I know you prefer when we post our hours soon after we get them, but I had issues with my old blog. It won't happen again.
Here are the hours I've earned so far:

09/01 Moc Sports Meeting- 30min
First meeting of the semester. Brief overview of what to expect, how to help, and how to get hours.

09/06 Shoot w/ TJ- 1.5 hr
I was invited to shaddow TJ while he did a video shoot for a communication student's survey project. I helped him set up the room, and asked questions about the project. She was a few people short, so I actually participated on camera in a pannel discussion about reality television. I'm not sure if this can be counted for practicum, but it was interesting.

09/06/ Men's Soccer Game- 2hr
Took turns filming with the guys. Justin showed me a better technique for anticipating good shots. I still feel weak on the camera because whenever we're at games, a lot of people show up, so we all only get 20-30min turns. I realize that this is probably not going to be adequate practice if I'm going to get any better.

09/09 Men's Soccer Game- 2hr
After the game, I had a brief conversation w/ Luti about the discussion I had with you in the beginning of the semester. I know I'm not one of your favorite students, but I've decided not to drop COM as my major. It's really what I want to do. I might be a little behind, but I can learn. John said that I'm doing a good job when I come out, and all I need is more practice. That was encouraging.

09/15 Moc Sports Meeting- 30min
This meeting was short. I met Lauren, who said she needed help editing later. I REALLY want to learn how, so she said I can take notes next time. Between her and Cynthia, hopefully I can edit packages by myself before Christmas.

Who'da Thunk It?

I found out the hard way that deleting your Google account means being unable to access Blogger, so here is my new, improved, simplified practicum blog.
